American Public Television Shows Earn 13 Daytime Emmy Nominations

America's Test Kitchen From Cook's Illustrated, Avec Eric, Cook's Country From America's Test Kitchen, Lidia's Italy and others recognized by industry's top honors.

BOSTON (May 12, 2011) – American Public Television (APT), a leading distributor of programs for public television, announced that several of its best-known programs have been honored with 13 Daytime Emmy nominations for 2011 – helping public television overall earn the No. 1 ranking in total nominations this year.

“We are proud to see our programming recognized with nominations for one of the most prestigious honors in television,” said Cynthia Fenneman, President and CEO of American Public Television. “Public television has earned its place as a trusted home for daytime fare thanks to programs featuring expert hosts, entertaining, yet strong information, and uninterrupted content.”

For the 2011 Daytime Emmys, APT programs accounted for 13 of the 57 public television nominations. In the previous two years, APT also figured prominently in the Daytime Emmys – with eight and 11 shows nominated respectively in 2009 and 2010.

APT's nominated programs feature some of the most recognized shows and personalities on public television. Four of APT’s cooking shows are vying for the prestigious “Outstanding Culinary Program” – America's Test Kitchen From Cook's Illustrated, Avec Eric, Cook's Country From America's Test Kitchen and Lidia's Italy. Chris Kimball of America's Test Kitchen From Cook's Illustrated was also nominated for "Outstanding Lifestyle/Culinary Host."

The acclaimed documentary New Orleans: Getting Back To Normal earned a nomination for "Outstanding Special Class Special" and "Outstanding Special Class Directing." Both Biz Kid$, the series that teaches kids financial responsibility and entrepreneurship, and Travelscope received recognition for "Outstanding Achievement in Single Camera Photography (Film or Electronic)."

Biz Kid$ also garnered a nomination for "Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Live Action and Animation" and "Outstanding Directing in a Children's Series," and Rough Cut – Woodworking With Tommy Mac picked up a bid for "Outstanding Directing in a Lifestyle / Culinary program. In addition, Equitrekking, the first travel television series to explore the world on horseback, earned a nomination for "Outstanding Special Class Writing."

These television programs are distributed by American Public Television and broadcast nationally on public television stations.
